Hi NoviceUserMP Those new Office icons are being updated around the world, they are dividing opinion, sadly, we have no option to change those default icons on the Office shortcuts that are created automatically. If those icons are on your Desktop, you can manually create other shortcuts and change the icons, though it is a bit of a process.

FWIW, my icons also changed today after I rebooted my system. Re: 2 - it's up to MS what icons they change and in this case, am assuming that only the primary icons got a facelift. Publisher is not a member of every Office suite.
As an aside, MS Access also did not get a new icon facelift - leastwise not that I've seen. As a for instance, neither Publisher or Access are part of Office for Mac.
